Respond to business demands
Public sector funding has decreased and private sector companies are reluctant to invest in three year courses to up-skill staff. The economic downturn has necessitated a change in the way employers operate. Similarly, universities and colleges must innovate and develop new courses to meet new employer demands. Despite the downturn, 72% of employers plan to maintain or increase spending on training and only 28% plan to cut training budgets.
The Centre for Work and Learning
To help meet industry demand, the Centre for Work and Learning was created as a product of the Sussex Learning Network. We continue to work with our academic partners but in a new direction. Employers want flexible, bite-sized vocational qualifications in preference to traditional learning methods and qualifications. CWL aims to address this through higher level vocational learning to close the skills gap in the Sussex region.
